Frequency of mitral valve prolapse in pregnant women with weight deficit

L.I. Olimova, M.F. Dodkhoeva

Analysis of the results of echocardiography in a group of pregnant and nonpregnant women with weight deficit showed the presence of mitral valve prolapse in 43,5% and 30% of women respectively. The study indicated the degree of progression of mitral valve prolapse in the II and III trimester of pregnancy, which may be associated with disruption of the compensatory mechanisms due to a marked deficit of body weight.

Keywords: weight deficit, mitral valve prolapse.
