The authors examined the effects of different groups of antihypertensive drugs on blood lipid profile in 80 patients with older age (60 to 94 years) with isolated systolic hypertension (ISH) I and II types.

In the group of patients receiving Lopicard, total cholesterol (TC) decreased by 13.4%, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) - by 24.7%, triglycerides (TG) - by 12.6%, atherogenic coefficient (AC) - by 21.8%, accompanied by increased high-density lipoprotein (HDL) - 7%. The treatment by Carvedil patients also noted anti-atherogenic effect. In the group of patients receiving hypothiasid - the end of treatment indicated a negative effect of the drug on lipid parameters, which reflects an increase in LDL-C - 12%, AC- by 18.7%, increase in cholesterol - by 3% on reducing HDL cholesterol -by 11%.

For the treatment of elderly patients with isolated systolic hypertension are useful: Ednit, Lopicard and Carvedil. Appointment of hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg or more, taking into account its effect on the blood lipid profile, is undesirable. Given the focus of atherogenic lipids in the age group of patients, the findings have important prognostic value.
