The work is based on an analysis of 86 patients with surgical treatment of children with congenital spinal hernias. The authors proposed the division of congenital spinal hernia, depending on the size of the hernial sac, which plays an important role in choosing a surgical correction of soft tissue defects after herniotomy.

Combination of congenital spinal hernia with symptoms of increased intracranial pressure is require to forming a temporary closed external lumbar drainage.Among the anatomical type of defects in spinal hernias dominated complicated forms – meningo-radiculocele what was observed in 47 (54.6%) patients. Due to the large size of the hernia sac for 4 patients was performed single-stage installation of lumbo-peritoneal shunt.

Various local plastic operations performed to 23 patients, only 2 (8.7%) had a complication in the form of suture failure due to flap edges necrosis. These patients subsequently with secondary wound healing discharged in satisfactory condition.
