Use of reksetin in hypertension therapy of elderly with comorbid depression

The aim of this research was to study the effect of new generation antidepressant – reksetin on the clinical course and diurnal variations in blood pressure in hypertensive patients of elder age with comorbid affective disorders. 30 patients with essential hypertension I and II degree with comorbid depression were randomly assigned to a main and a control groups. Both groups administered liprazid. Patients of the main group, in addition to antihypertensive therapy received a mean daily dose of reksetin 15mg.

Circadian variations in blood pressure was studied by daily monitoring. In the study group by the end of the 8-week treatment BDI total score decreased by 47.5% and was 12,6 ± 1,6 points. Complete reduction of depressive symptoms was observed in 84% of patients. In the control group the essential changes of the psychological status were not observed - BDI total score decreased by 9%, the complete reduction of depression was achieved in 10% of patients. Comorbid anxiety symptoms in the study group decreased from 61,9 ± 2,1 to 45,2 ± 2,8 points (p<0.05). In the control group, the dynamics of this index was low (3% of the original).
