Review article focuses on the role and importance of the quality of life (QOL) in medicine, particularly in the light of its significance in patients with HIV infection.

Actuality of studying QOL, primarily caused by the fact that AIDS is an incurable chronic disease, enveloped psychosocial problems and presence of stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV / AIDS, of course, brings discomfort to lives of these people that affects the quality of their lives.

Analysis of literature shows a lack of studying all aspects of HIV infection impact on QOL of people living with HIV / AIDS (PLWHA): the presence of opportunistic infections, patients coping issues in society and the social integration of PLWHA, the efficacy of antiretroviral therapy and survival of patients.

Keywords: quality of life, health-related, HIV, HIV / AIDS, the concept of quality of life in medicine, opportunistic diseases, antiretroviral therapy, PLWHA, AIDS-defining illness.
