Modern antidepressants in clinical cardiology

In reviewing of literature the modern data on relationship of stress, anxiety and depression with cardiovascular disease are presented. Noted that anxiety and depressive disorders increased by 1.5-2 times the risk of developing cardiovascular disease and sudden cardiac death.

Pointed that new generation of antidepressants - selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), and derivatives of melatonin have no side effects typical of tricyclic antidepressants and may be used to treat patients with cardiovascular disease comorbid depression. Also important that these drugs, in contrast to conventional antidepressant suitable for the treatment of comorbid anxiety and depressive disorders in patients with cardiovascular disease in older age groups.
