Pituitary-adrenal activity after total gastrectomy

In 187 patients with gastric cancer before and at various times after gastrectomy the secretion of ACTH, cortisol and aldosteroneare tested. Increased levels of cortisol is an indicator of the intensity of hormonalstress and before the operation it is observed dueto progression of gastric cancer, and after gastrectomyin presence of markedsigns of agastral dystrophy. Reduction of mineralocorticoid adrenocortical function at remote after gastrectomy, allowing make assumption about loss of the endocrine function of stomach stimulating the secretion of this hormone.
