Cross-linked ultra-high molecular polyethylene - a promising material in joint replacement
Review article devote to analysis of new resistant material - cross-linked ultra-high molecular polyethylene (UHMWPE) in total joint replacement. An increasing number of replacement implants surgery , the need for the introduction of joint replacement in young persons are doing more and more important improvement of the prosthesis design, in particular - the introduction of wear-resistant materials. The authors showed the historical aspects of the creation and improvement of cross-linked UHMPE, briefly and in simple terms indicated some of the technical details, allowing to understand the advantages and disadvantages of different modifications. Based on consideration of a large number of literary sources, provides a critical analysis of the clinical application of the first generation of cross-linked UHMPE, the necessity of a broad introduction into clinical practice of prosthesis having improved in the friction, the second generation of this promising material.
Keywords: total joint replacement, ultra-high molecular polyethylene.
